LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR WINS ART CONTEST FOR THE SEVENTH ANNUAL TASTE OF DESOTO
January 28, 2011 - DeSoto County MS - The Taste of DeSoto is proud to announce the winner of the 2011 Taste of DeSoto Art Contest is Sydney Hudspeth, a high school senior at DeSoto Central High School. Sydney’s computer graphic entitled ‘A Tasty Taste’ will be used to publicize this annual event. The winning piece of artwork depicts a hungry little chef ready to devour all the tasty food shown. The art contest, which was open to any DeSoto County resident, was judged by event sponsors, participating restaurants and the Taste of Desoto committee. In addition to all the publicity, the winner receives a $250 cash prize. Signed and numbered prints are presented to event sponsors and participating restaurants for display in their establishments. The original art is auctioned to the highest bidder during the event.
The Taste of Desoto fundraiser benefits the American Liver Foundation and, starting this year, has partnered with the Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi to expand distribution of benefits to include selected local charities. The event showcasing the great food in Desoto County attracts people throughout Northwest Mississippi for one entry fee and features entertainment, a silent auction and approximately 50 restaurants from DeSoto and surrounding counties offering samples of their tastiest fare.
Last year, with over 1000 attendees, the food-tasting event raised over $52,000 for the American Liver Foundation’s programs, services and research grants. Organizers expect the fundraiser to continue to grow in popularity.
The Seventh Annual Taste of Desoto event will take place on March 22, 2011 in the Arena at Southaven from 5:30 - 9 p.m. Visit www.thetasteofdesoto.com or Facebook for additional information and updates. Read More...
